Dan and Anna Wearsch

Campus Minister and his wife

Dan and Anna Wearsch

Campus Minister

Dan Wearsch is the campus minister at Toledo. His hometown is Norwalk, OH. Dan is interested some of the usual manly things like sports, music, and video games, but he also likes some unusual things like musicals, ties, and conversations. He is and always will be a Browns fan and loves theological, in-depth, thought-provoking statements.

  1. Name 3 of your favorite bands:

Hard to name just three but….Muse, Andrew Bird, and Radiohead.

  2. Name 3 of your favorite sports teams in order of significance:

    Browns, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers.

  3. If you could sit down with anyone in history and have coffee, who would you pick?

That’s easy…First, I don’t like coffee, so I would have juice with Jesus. He knows everything about me and could answer all of those tough questions.

  4. Name a pet peeve:

I don’t like it when you are having a conversation with someone and they don’t look you in the face because they are too busy texting or staring at their phone. One more thing that annoys me is musicians that write superficial lyrics. I don’t want to name names but…*cough, Britney Spears, Nickelback, Jonas Brothers, cough* Sorry, but none of them compare to classic lyricists like MeWithoutYou, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, among others.

  5. Advice for students in college:

The biggest thing the students need to figure out is what Dave Warner always says: “Are you going to be a student who is a Christian, or a Christian who happens to be a student?”

Anna Wearsch

Anna is Dan Wearsch’s lovely wife. She grew up in the Akron/Canton area with her parents, younger sister, and two crazy cats. Anna enjoys spending quality time with her husband, family and friends, as well as singing, baking, and reading. She has also recently taken an interest (by default….?) in football, and is learning a lot about it from her husband. Go Browns! :-)

  1. Your favorite color?

PINK! My roommate and best friend from college got me started on this kick, and I just haven’t stopped. I try to buy the occasional neutral-colored item, however...

  2. Neatest place you’ve been?

In college, my parents took my sister and I to Yellowstone National Park. It was so incredible to see all of the wonders of God’s creation….the mountains, waterfalls, and geysers….among all of the really cool animals (moose, bears, buffalo, deer, elk, bald eagles)!

  3. Greatest lesson God has taught you:

God has taught me many wonderful things over the course of my life. However, a recent lesson He has taught me is that of trust : of realizing that His plans are so much bigger and better than mine, and that if I stay in His will, He will protect me and provide for all of my needs.

  4. Name 3 of your favorite bands:

I have many, but I really like Coldplay, Need to Breathe and Mae.

  5. Advice for students in college:

Don’t waste your time on the seemingly appealing things that college life offers (alcohol, drugs, parties, etc.), but instead seek out relationships that will count for something and that will last beyond your 4 year in school (that includes one with God, first and foremost!).

Katie Nowland

Women's Group Leader

Katie and Adam

Katie Nowland

I grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Grove City College, a Christian college in PA. I moved to OH in 2008, when I got married to my wonderful husband Adam. He's the tall guy you'll occasionally see at Monday night worship and monthly dinners. I was a biology major who loves learning about and enjoying all of God's creation. I am fascinated by nature and would much rather be outside. I love food, especially Mexican and Mediterranean. And chocolate chip cookies and peaches. Life's too short for bad food. I come from a big family with lots of cousins, with whom I am pretty close. My brother is starting college soon, so I am reminded often of how important college ministry can be for students. I can be pretty creative, and I always have some kind of project I'm working on. I love photography, especially black and white.

  1. Why do you care so much about the college age?

There is so much of pressure facing students, socially, academically, morally. Without a solid support system, they can compromise their faith and make some bad decisions. Groups like ACT can be the positive influence in their lives to help them put God front and center. My own experiences in my college ministry asked tough questions and challenged me to find my identity in Christ. I am excited to lead women's group and let God speak through me.

  2. If you could fly, where would you go first?

The east coast. I love the ocean and I could spend all day just sitting on the beach and listening to the waves.

  3. What is one experience that has shaped who you are and how you view the world, and why?

I went on a few service trips in college, but one place has really stuck out to me. It was a shelter in Maryland for homeless families, and the group spent the week putting up drywall and pouring concrete. I was a mere freshman in college and a part of this amazing group of college students who cared for those who struggled to live on the streets. Seeing the small amount of good we could do in a week, I learned how important it was for me to follow the plans God had for my life. It encouraged me to lead the trip next year and get more involved in my campus ministry.

  4. Which is worse...not brushing your teeth for a month, not showering for a month, or having to cook 3 meals a day for your husband for a month?

I like to cook (or as Adam calls it, "experimenting" with food) and I spent my summers in college working as a camp counselor so not showering isn't too hard... I do not like dirty teeth. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't brush them for a month!

  5. Pick one carefully and explain why you picked him/her...Batman, Superman, the Care Bears, or King Hezekiah?

King Hezekiah definitely. The bible says "He held fast to the LORD and did not cease to follow him." He didn't have a NIV study bible to reference, or centuries of religious scholars to back up his beliefs. He had to live and rule by faith, something countless kings couldn't. He had a closeness with God that we could only imagine. Plus he has a sweet name. Haven't you always wished you had a sweet Old Testament name? I have.
